Let’s Talk About Disease Prevention
“Have you had your cancer today?” This is what my pathophysiology teacher asked us when he was teaching us about cancer. He was trying to make the point that our bodies are constantly exposed to carcinogens all around us. It’s true that we are regularly exposed to toxins that cause disease. However, the empowering news is that positive physical, emotional and spiritual health changes can oftentimes prevent cancer and other diseases. You can improve your health and prevent disease with some of the ideas listed below!
- Pray without ceasing.
- Read the Bible.
- Call a friend when you need emotional support.
- Eliminate one unhealthy food from your diet.
- Switch to natural cleaning/personal care products.
- Talk to a counselor about your relationship problems.
- Find a work-out buddy or health accountability partner.
- Do CrossFit.
- Join a gym.
- Read an inspirational book.
- Get a massage.
- Make healthy smoothies.
- Add one healthy food to your diet.
- Buy grass-fed beef instead of conventional beef.
- Memorize encouraging Bible verses.
- Forgive the mistakes of yourself and others.
- Listen to soothing music.
- Buy raw, organic dairy instead of conventional dairy.
- Use pure essential oils to support your health.
- Add a multivitamin or healthy supplement to your diet.
- Add Epsom salts to your bath.
- Go for a 20-minute walk.
- Run in a 5k race.
- Run in a Warrior Dash race.
- Join a fun Meetup group.
- Open a window for at least 15 minutes everyday.
- Add more vegetables to your diet.
- Add more nuts and seeds to your diet.
- Drink green tea.
- Eat more avocados.
- Eliminate soda pop from your diet.
- Fast from social media for a week.
- Watch less TV.
- Travel to a sunny vacation spot.

- Turn off the notifications on your phone.
- Create a vision board to help you achieve your dreams/goals.
- Find one natural remedy and integrate it into your health routine.
- Visit a trusted integrative practitioner.
- Take a break from negativity and violence in the media.
- Start a new hobby.
- Tackle a new project.
- Join a Bible study at church.
- Devise a plan for financial freedom.
- Minimize your contact with toxic people.
- Adopt a pet.
- Volunteer your time for a worthy cause.
- De-clutter your bedroom and donate things you don’t need.
- Add kale to your diet.
- Make a list of enjoyable activities and do them on a weekly/monthly/yearly basis.
- Practice hospitality.
- Get your vitamin D level checked regularly and supplement as needed.
- Cook with organic butter and coconut oil instead of canola oil.
- Buy a non-toxic mattress.
- Buy organic pillows.
- Switch to safe cookware.
- Take a daily probiotic.
- Cook dinner instead of buying fast food.
- Stop adding extra salt to your food.
- Add blueberries to your smoothie.
- Eat desserts weekly instead of daily.
- See a financial advisor to help lessen stress from financial difficulties.
- Get at least 7 hours of sleep every night.
- Rejoice in the Lord.
- When you have a negative thought, do the following. Stop the negative thought. Reject the negative thought. Replace the negative thought with a Bible verse or with a positive thought.
- Drink more water.
- Reduce trips to fast food restaurants.

- Practice the Sabbath/take a day of rest.
- Take a nap.
- Learn to be content.
- Be kind to yourself and others.
- Start a gratitude journal.
- Spend time outdoors.
- Join a sports team.
- Be thankful.
Are you trying to improve your health? Don’t stress about making multiple changes all at once. Even the smallest change can make a positive difference!

These suggestions are wonderful. This post reminds me of the many things that I can do to improve my health – and also makes me realize that I shouldn’t stress if I am only able to do a few of them.
