Keep on Detoxing
When I had severe psoriasis on my hands last year, I cleaned up my diet and did a Cleanse with essential oils. Even though my skin had greatly improved from the Cleanse, my Functional Medicine practitioner wanted me to continue detoxing. The lab results that were performed prior to the Cleanse revealed that my gut had a lot of toxins. I was surprised by her recommendation, though. Keep on detoxing? That was a new concept for me. I thought that one Cleanse would be enough.
When I think about that conversation now, I realize that her advice made perfect sense. Think about a smelly garbage can. If you only take out half of the garbage in your garbage can, it will still be smelly and toxic. Our body is constantly exposed to toxins from fake foods and toxins from the environment. If you don’t take enough garbage out of your body, then your body will eventually overflow with toxins. That is when your body needs extra help. For these reasons, please consider adding some detox measures to your health regimen! Here are some ideas to get you started.
Water
Drinking enough water will help you to have more regular bowel movements. Try to drink at least half of your weight in ounces everyday. So, for example, if you weigh 150 pounds, aim for about 9.5 cups per day. Try to drink the purest water that you can.
Onions
Onions kill bacteria! There are so many ways to eat these pungent, delicious vegetables. Add them to a sandwich, place them on your omelette, or throw them in your soups.
Garlic
Garlic is another food that can kill bad germs in the gut. This is another flavorful food that you can add to almost any delicious meal. Try eating one clove with every meal.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is another bacteria killer! Start off slow and work your way up to 1 tablespoon, three times per day. Be sure to dilute the apple cider vinegar in 1 cup of water each time. When shopping for apple cider vinegar, buy apple cider vinegar with the “mother” enzymes.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil can help fight fungus and other infections. I like to spread coconut oil on my Ezekiel 4:9 bread. You can also throw some in smoothies, add them to your baked goods, or eat coconut oil right out of the bottle. Don’t consume more than 2 tablespoons of coconut oil per day and look for organic, unrefined coconut oil.
Essential Oils
Essential oils such as oregano, melaleuca, lemon, lemongrass, peppermint, and thyme can help with cleaning up the gut. These powerful oils played a major role in helping my skin get back to normal!
