Meet alexandra

I am a woman of faith, wife, mom, author, podcaster, and registered nurse with years of experience in the clinical research industry.

Despite my work in the pharmaceutical industry, I have a passion for holistic health and natural living. It took me awhile to get here, though. Growing up, I didn’t really believe that healthy foods could have much of an effect on one’s health. I hated vegetables. I hated cooking. When I was in nursing school, one of my friends said to me, “Everytime I see you eat, you are eating processed food from a package.” When I started working, I would bring four frozen breakfast sandwiches loaded with sodium and artificial ingredients to work everyday. In 2012, I was pregnant with my first daughter and read a book that changed my life; it put me on the path that I am on today—the Holistic Healing journey!

Around 2014, I started developing itchy rashes on my skin. For a while, I used topical steroids to “turn off the symptom.” Doctors disagreed on the diagnosis, but a couple of them called it psoriasis.

My symptoms worsened in 2019. What started as dry patches on my fingers eventually progressed to oozing, flaky, painful, itchy rashes that spread to the fronts and backs of my hands. On my worst days, I also had itchy hives on my arms and nasty blotches on my face, neck, underarms, and left foot. When washing dishes, I had to wear cotton gloves under my rubber gloves to avoid additional cuts to my hands. I was afraid to hold my squirmy kids because their clothes irritated my skin whenever they moved around in my arms. At night, I taped a sock to my hand to protect myself from obsessive scratching in my sleep. The worst symptoms lasted from April to December 2019.

About four months after the skin flare started, I discontinued the steroid. I was determined to find out why my skin was so angry. I tweaked my diet several times and visited various alternative healthcare practitioners. My skin finally started to clear up after I did a cleanse with essential oils and herbs. My skin was mostly back to normal after I addressed nutritional deficiencies that a functional medicine practitioner found.

Let’s play the “What If” game for a second. What if I had only visited a conventional physician and decided to take medications to get rid of the symptoms? In the best-case scenario, my skin would immediately improve with minimal side effects, but my nutrition would continue to decline, leading to additional symptoms and serious disease. In the worst-case scenario, my skin would continue to worsen, and I would need more powerful drugs that cause more serious side effects. My overall health would continue to spiral downward, and I would be left with a pile of medical bills. Turning off the symptom may provide immediate relief, but it is not the wisest plan of action. If you don’t give your body what it truly needs, it will eventually stop working.

Throughout this ongoing adventure, God has taught me many lessons. The most important lesson is this—we serve a supernatural God, and that God is our true Healer. Will you let Jesus be your healer?

Love how relatable and authentic Alexandra is as well as the mix of biblical and practical application of how to be a healthy mom!
